Bologna Game Farm: presentation of the winners

Bologna Game Farm is quickening its pace. This new project for the development of the videogames sector is promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipality of Bologna, coordinated by IncrediBOL! and ART-ER S. Cons. p. A. and implemented in collaboration with IIDEA – Italian Interactive & Digital Entertainment Association with the partnership of ACER.

On Wednesday 15th December at 15.00, in the Auditorium Biagi of Salaborsa, the videogames prototypes will be presented. These will form part of the new acceleration path beginning in January. The path will provide the opportunity to meet and to analyse the state of play in the Italian videogames sector – one of the most interesting growth areas in our country, with huge potential within the creative industries. Bologna Game Farm is the second videogames accelerator to be created in Italy, following the recently formed Cinecittà Game Hub in Rome. Its goal is to encourage the development of managerial and entrepreneurial capacities within this sector in Emilia-Romagna, to increase awareness of the importance of the sector for the economic growth of the regional productive system and to enhance relations between the videogames sector and the regional ecosystem of innovation, by stimulating cross-fertilization with other sectors.

Four entities from Emilia-Romagna, selected by the Municipality of Bologna together with the project partners through the Bologna Game Farm public competition call, will enjoy a contribution of 30,000 euro each and will have the opportunity to take part in the first pilot acceleration course. This will be coordinated by professionals of the sector active nationally and will assist participants in perfecting their product and developing a suitable commercialization strategy. Here they are:

MAGARI SRLS (Parma) presents FLAGSHIP, a videogame in virtual reality where the player takes control of statues spread over the surrounding area by exchanging glances with them;

FAMA LABS (Modena) presents BASKET PARTY, a multiplayer videogame where two teams challenge each other in games lasting only a few minutes, with the aim of scoring as many goals as possible;

GREEN FLAMINGO SOC. COOP. (Bologna) presents SPANKY’S, a musical platform inspired by the iconography of 1930s animation, where the player acts the part of a bat that has entered a city, fighting and moving in time to the music;

LUCA APPIO, freelance professional (Bologna), presents GLADIATOR WHEELS, a videogame where fantastic cars fight in arenas, in a mediaeval-punk environment.

The acceleration path envisages residence in coworking at the Serre di Art-ER, a space dedicated to innovative start-ups and a hub of the regional ecosystem in support of the creation of enterprises. Coaching will be organized by IIDEA through local members, coordinated by Ivan Venturi. The tutors will be Luca Marchetti and Gianluca Marani, with the involvement of the IIDEA partners and with the technical partnership of ACER.

Speeches will be made at the presentation by Rosa Grimaldi, the Mayor’s delegate for Cultural and Creative Industries, Morena Diazzi, General Director of the Economy of Knowledge, Labour and Enterprise of the Emilia Romagna Region, Giorgia Boldrini, Director of the Culture and Creativity Sector of the Municipality of Bologna, Marina Silverii, Operative Director of Art-ER, Giorgio Catania, IIDEA – Italian Interactive & Digital Entertainment Association, Ivan Venturi, Coordinator of the acceleration path, Dario Pelella, CTO and co-founder of Xplored srl, Roberto Semprebene, Studio Manager of Storm in a Teacup and Giacomo Baraldi of IDG consulting, who will illustrate the results of the research on the videogames sector in Emilia Romagna commissioned by ART-ER.
