The Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna is an institution of university level for higher artistic and cultural education, established in 1710.

The head office is located in Bologna, with satellite offices in Cesena and Ravenna. The Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna is located in the heart of the university area and occupies, together with the National Art Gallery, the complex of the Church of Sant'Ignazio e Noviziato of the Jesuits, which was erected by Alfonso Torreggiani between 1728-1735. In the Academy complex are classrooms for theoretical activity, laboratories and the Lecture Hall, which is used for events, conferences and seminars. The workshops for painting, sculpture and engraving are located on the ground floor; anatomy and decoration are on the first floor, in different wings of the building; the scenography workshops are placed in the Theatre Hall.

ACTIVITIES

The Academy consists of 3 departments (Visual Arts, Communication and Art Didactics, Design and Applied Arts) and offers training in more than 25 courses divided between three-year courses of the first-level degree, two-year courses of the second-level, specialist degrees and the single cycle 5-year course in Restoration. Within the building there is also the Design Center, a research and experimentation hub, which integrates resources in design and communication with new technologies in favour of entities and enterprises belonging to the regional production system. Established within the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, the Design Center houses since 2013, in collaboration with the Municipality of Bologna, the "co-working @ababo" project, that helps six teams of young professionals during their training course, with the aim to encourage the dialogue among creative minds, the number of projects and the relationship with the traditional financial sectors and the territory.
