The Bernstein School of Musical Theater (BSMT) is considered one of the most renowned academies for training in the performing arts in Italy today. Founded by the Canadian Art Director Shawna Farrell, over the years it has developed many collaborations and projects with cultural and institutional bodies such as the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, the Teatro Duse, the Teatro Brancaccio in Rome and many others. It has produced and staged (BSMT Productions) some of the most famous and award-winning international musicals and has created and launched the first festival entirely dedicated to the musical genre, 'A Summer Musical Festival'. There are also many artistic collaborations with directors, choreographers and artists of international renown who nurture the 'on-the-job' training of all the Academy's students.

SPECIAL PROJECT 2020

In October 2017, the BSMT opened the 'Center for the Performing Arts' in Bologna, a venue of over 2000 m², with large classrooms for dance, acting and choral singing, individual study rooms and a small theatre, with the aim of continuing to support the training of tomorrow's young performers. In 2020, it became the first Musical Theatre school to be recognised as an AFAM subject (Institution of Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance), proving that it is an Academy eligible to award a qualification recognised by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR). In the summer of 2020, in response to the health emergency, the BSMT transformed the Academy's outdoor spaces into an 'Open Air Theater', repurposing direction, choreography and stage space for the eighth edition of the 'Summer Musical Festival' and proposing new formats to continue the production of musicals in the Covid era.
