Eighth edition winner - START-UP section

Founded in Bologna in 2015, Ebasko Theatre takes its name from the ancient Greek word ἡβάσκω: ‘acquire strength, gain youth.’ This theatrical research group experiments with different artistic languages in order to investigate the functioning of voice and body onstage. Since 2014, the group has carried out workshops for Bologna residents and university students. It has one play in its repertoire, ‘Mèlisse', and is starting production on two others: ‘Cosmos’ (a street performance) and ‘Fragalà'. Entirely constituted by artists under age 30, the theatre group has organised festivals, fairs and socio-cultural projects, winning European and national funding and participating in the organisation of a variety of Italian and international events. The six-member group is active in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna and across Italy and Europe.
