First edition winner

Giorgia Palmirani, who graduated in Architecture, worked for 10 years in her family’s natural stone company until, during the refurbishment of her grandmother’s house, she accidentally bumped into a cupboard full of rolls of canvas, woven by her great-grandmother and most probably from a wartime dowry.

Struck by the beauty of these materials, she felt the urge to search and reuse this material to appreciate the silent work of so many women, mothers and great-grandmas!!!
She thus continued to search for materials in flee markets, at artisan upholsterers and wherever she could find fabrics telling a story. This is how her archive started and gave birth to Saisei: a brand of imperfect bags for uniquely imperfect customers.

PRODUCTS

SAISEI in Japanese means “rebirth/recovery”: this is the principle on which the brand’s philosophy is based.
The collection originates from forgotten fabrics – canvas sheets, scraps from historical craft shops, military tents – that the pleasure for craftsmanship, combined with a taste for contemporary decor, bring back to life.
Saisei also means looking for special treatments that give fabrics and leather a particular materiality. The materials, treated in the finished model with coloured wax coatings or sprayed with special resins, are thus altered in form and colour, although remaining intact in essence.
Assembled, reinvented, these “scraps” come back to life, becoming the cover of unique bags, which are strictly hand-made in Italy.
